It’s no doubt that Apple is working on a new line of iPhones but a recent supply list leak may have revealed who will be contributing parts to the next generation iPhone.

The list of suppliers comes from Digitimes who’ve had a hit or miss with Apple rumors but the parts seem to match up with recent news we’ve heard about the purported hardware in the next generation iPhone. The full list is available after the jump.

More Than One Model Of iPhone Coming This Summer?

Posted April 14, 09 5:00 AM by Tanner Godarzi
Categories: Business Deals Rumor

image According to recent rumors, Apple may introduce more than one model of its next generation iPhone with slimmed down specs at a lower price and limited availability.

The new “lite” models would come alongside the much improved 3rd generation iPhone with one sporting an EDGE cellular connection instead of the much faster HSPA+ standard. A new CDMA only iPhone without WiFi would be launched in China with sales limited to that country as well as a regional lock tying it to Chinese cellular carriers. However, the much rumored “iPhone Nano” would not be part of the new line up.

Apple Store Ditching Archaic Payment Service Systems

Posted April 13, 09 8:00 AM by Tanner Godarzi

imageIf you’ve ever ventured in to the Apple store, surely you’ve seen at least once, the frustration employees endure when ordering up a customer with their handheld scanners. However, this could soon change.

The handsets used to swipe credit cards and take orders by roaming employees manning the floor run the aging Windows CE and after endless crashes delaying a rather simple checkout process, Apple may be looking toward its own iPhone to take up the job. According to Apple Insider, Apple could work with a third party to create a credit card reader that connects to the iPhone’s Dock Connector and use existing point of sales Apps to speed up the checkout process. This would finally bring a major component of the Apple’s Store checkout system up to date and promote one of the company’s products at the same time.

Categories: Analysis Competition Rumor

imageAccording to the rumor mill, Apple has ordered 100 million 8 GB Flash modules for use in its next generation iPhone.

The 100 million pieces of 8 GB Flash modules would then be further combined, likely in increments of 8, 16 and 32 GB sizes. There has been little world on the other applications Apple would could use with this much memory besides creating an iPod Touch with memory sizes larger than 32 GBs.

imageContinual sifting of the iPhone 3.0 Firmware has already prompted some unannounced features and a newly found secret gives further credence to the inclusion of a video camera in the next generation iPhone.

We’ve already gotten the first clue from Engadget which was a hidden video upload window to MobileMe but it wasn’t active. According to the translation of a German site, resources for video editing and icons hinting at playback controls have been unearthed. While it still is a rumor that the next generation iPhone will have a video camera, this gives further proof to the possibility and Apple may have a few surprises planned for us come June.

Ben Reitzes also claims that the next generation iPhone would arrive this June and come in two variations, the much rumored higher end version and a potentially stripped down, cheaper version to be a sold at a discount. To prepare for the next generation iPhone’s launch, Ben also cites Apple’s interest in increasing production hopefully to avoid selling out and have an adequate supply for the dozens of countries it would launch on this summer.

FM Transmitter Could Reside In Next Generation iPhone

Posted April 6, 09 5:00 AM by Tanner Godarzi
Categories: Hardware Rumor

imageA myriad of features are planned for Apple’s next generation iPhone and amongst the rumored upgrades might be something you didn’t expect: an FM transmitter.

Apple’s iPod and current generation iPhones have noticeably gone without having an AM/FM transmitter to tune in to a radio station. Reference’s to Broadcom’s BMC4329 wireless chip in the latest build of the 3.0 Firmware has the rumor mill churning as this particular piece of Silicon supports receiving and transmitting FM frequencies. The use of this in the next generation iPhone could allow users to stream music wirelessly to radios over an FM channel but that is dubious as Apple would want to do little to jeopardize it’s heavily licensed third-party accessory makers.

High-End iPhone, Low-End iPhone

According to CNET, a research report from Lazard Capital Markets, Apple is likely to begin manufacturing of both a high-end 32GB iPhone and low-end 16GB model.

This is good news. Of course we all know a new iPhone is in the works, and according to previous rumors, two iPhone models were spotted deep within the code of the newest iPhone SDK.

The new high-end model will add improvements to the camera, possibly adding video, while the low-end model will be stripped of all fun and focus primarily in markets like Brazil, Russia, India, and China.

Although there is not much I don’t think they could do to change the hardware of the iPhone, I hope they will create an iPhone worth buying. The aforementioned phones will supposedly be announced this June.

Analyst Predicts What We’ve All Been Thinking: More Expensive iPhone Won’t Apple

Posted March 31, 09 8:00 AM by Tanner Godarzi

image Rumors have been swirling around what the next generation iPhone will include and often times personal wants get mixed in as well but a Canadian analyst is pointing out the obvious. A higher end iPhone will all the dream features we want won’t help Apple’s sales.

The iPhone 3G took off drastically thanks to its inclusion of 3G, wider availability and of course a massive price cut over the last generation. Lowering the price would help Apple sell more iPhones but introducing an “iPhone Pro” would add little to Apple’s revenue according to Mike Abramsky, a Royal Bank of Canada analyst. While he does think some kind of fuller featured iPhone will arrive eventually, he speculates it won’t receive the same kind of sales growth the iPhone 3G did. Despite the rumors though, Analysts are very positive about the iPhone’s sales outlook as Gene Muster predicts 4.4 million handsets will be sold in Q2 2009.

Skype Coming to an iPhone Near You

Posted March 27, 09 8:00 AM by Jovan Washington
Categories: News Rumor

I was hoping the day would come when Skype arrives to the iPhone. It looks like that day will come very soon.

GigaOM claims to have word from a “very reliable” informant that Skype for iPhone is nearly ready for launch.

In addition, the app may even be released as soon as next week’s CTIA Wireless show.

Skype revealed that Skype for iPhone was in development back in January, so it is about time we finally hear something.

Hopefully, AT&T does not freak out about this app because it isn’t exactly the most beneficial app to AT&T.
