imageApple has been busy pushing out updates for the Beta version of its upcoming iPhone and iPod Touch Firmware, but a recent addition to a configuration file has revealed that the iPhone family may be expanding.

Speculations and rumors have been running rampant about Apple releasing a portable tablet version of the Mac which might run the iPhone OS. However, the reference to “iProd 0,1” was first spotted in March indicated that Apple already had this device in testing earlier this year but it is unknown whether or not the same mentions of “iProd 0,1” in both Firmware builds are the same. It is likely that Apple upgraded the device to “iProd 1,1” (which is also mention in the newest Firmware build) and that the second “iProd 0,1” is simply another prototype from the same family. There is no word on when these products will be released or whether they will come to fruition but it’s highly probable that is the tablet we’ve been waiting years for. A rumored September release has been passed around which would coincide with Apple’s usual refresh of the iPod line. What is just as… more...

imageJohn Gruber of Daring Fireball fame has cast his prediction in to the pot as to what we’ll see at WWDC.

Gruber is usual spot on with his predictions and this time he’s saying that the next gen iPhone will be called, or at least code named “iPhone 3GS.” He’s unsure of what the “S” stands for but knows that it will branded on to a new, faster model.

“I expect Apple to announce updated iPhones with significantly faster processors, twice the RAM, and twice the storage. I expected prices to remain the same as the current lineup: $199/299 for 16/32 GB, respectively. The video camera is going to be a major selling point.”

It will be interesting to see what the third generation iPhone’s final name is. The current iPhone 3G could become the $99 model analysts have been hoping for while the more expensive and up-to-date version could be dubbed “iPhone Video” according to some rumors.

Bombarded by the stream of iPhone rumors that just happened to pop up right before Apple’s Developer Conference tomorrow? Don’t worry, iPhone Matters is here to help dispel the myth from the maybe and this time, we’ve found a fake screenshot masquerading as a new feature.

Video conferencing has been tossed around in the rumor mill as coming to Apple’s third generation iPhone and a snapshot of the “feature” in action has been floating around the web. However, Gizmodo has discovered it’s nothing more than a blurrified screenshot of a Skype voice call over a Photoshopped iPhone. The Skype symbol had been covered up the site of origin’s watermark.

Potential Shots Of The New iPhone

As we rev up for WWDC tomorrow, more and more iPhone rumors are streaming in like crazy. The newest round is littered with mockups and poorly done Photoshops but a few legitimate shots may have come through.

The current design theme for Apple’s next generation seem to be a matte case taking the place of the current plastic enclosure and doing away with the chrome border for a softer, matte finish. A French Blog posted what it believes to be are spy pics of Apple’s 3rd generation iPhone and thanks to Engadget, the pics have been mirrored. Amidst the sea of fakes, do you think these are the real deal?

We’ll have to wait until tomorrow’s keynote to be sure.

imagePopular Australian Mac news site, Mactalk, has been hit with a cease and desist over an iPhone rumor posted on their Blog. The take down notice gives more and more proof towards a revamp to the iPhone.

The rumor, Apple’s 16GB iPhone was being discontinued and declared “end of life,” was enough to catch the eye of a firm (whose identity won’t be revealed according to Mactalk) and issue the cease and desist letter albeit two weeks too late. While you can still access the post via Google’s Caching mechanism, the rumor has already taken off across the Blog-o-sphere.

Nike+, Voicover, Radio Tagging For next Generation iPhone Found In iTunes 8.2

Posted June 5, 09 4:00 AM by Tanner Godarzi

iTunes 8.2 was recently made available for download and after some digging around by an AppleInsider reader, strings discovered in the media player’s preference files indicate that Apple is planning something big for its next generation iPhone.

It’s been rumored that Apple will incorporate an FM radio with tagging capabilities for some time but now, more concrete evidence is starting to pop up indicating the feature will be added. AppleInsider reader Will discovered mentions for Nike+, voice over controls and FM radio controls while digging around the newest iTunes build.

While Nike+ hasn’t been supported on the iPhone and instead on its counterpart the iPod Touch, the same implementation could be applied to the next generation iPhone where the radio chip is directly integrated in to the underlying hardware. Voiceover support would directly imitate the iPod Nano and could provide audio controls for your workout routine.
