Apple Reinvents the iPhone
I’m liking the concept folks but I just can’t see this happening, ever. Mac Essentials have posted up a rather nice image of what the iPhone Shuffle would most likely look like if Steve Jobs and co. started to use recreational drugs.
I doubt Apple SVP of Industrial Design, Jonathon Ive, would be allowed to get away with something like this but it’d make life a hell of a lot more interesting if Apple did.
P.S - Say no to drugs, kids!

Verizon Rejected iPhone Deal
Recent news hints that Verizon was initially approached by Apple to land exclusivity to the iPhone here in the states but that Verizon rejected Apple’s demands. Among the reported disagreements was Apple’s wish to decide whether or not to repair or replace a defective iPhone.

As it stands Apple has partnered up with Cingular in the States as the sole service provider for the iPhone, but what about the rest of the world? Whilst yours truly is still holding out for O2 in the U.K, it’s almost likely Apple will stick with Vodafone simply because they are the biggest provider over here. But it’s just been pretty much confirmed that Rogers Wireless will be the top dogs in Canada to partner up with Apple for exclusive rights to the iPhone. According to Electronista, the two companies are working closely together to get the iPhone launched just after the U.S launch date, so some time around June or July.
With regards to the rest of the world, all that is mentioned on Macworld UK is that Apple is still in talks with several European network operators trying to fix a single deal to cover the region - Vodafone, O2 or T-Mobile being the most likely contenders to gain exclusive rights to the iPhone.
More here as it happens folks.

Talk about obsessing over a product not even released yet, T3, the world’s no. 1 gadget mag, have ruffled up a pretty in depth ‘bible’ on the iPhone, covering everything from Apple’s two-year-in-the-making Multitouch patented technology, its internet features, how it’s practically an evolved iPod and a run down of some of the specs for those that haven’t already got enough information on the phone.
As it stands we’re also in the shadows over the final list of applications and widgets that will come installed on the iPhone, so seeing T3 come up with their own (sensible) list of widgets and apps they wouldn’t mind seeing on there is a good way of giving iPhone-fan boys and girls the chance to see what we could expect - remember that there’s still 5 and a bit months till launch and a lot can change between now and then.
One of the applications they do mention is ‘Garageband mobile’, which would allow users to record and publish podcasts on the go - it’ll probably never happen but it’s a great idea none the less. I wonder what… more...
iPhone Clones Coming Before the iPhone?!
Anyone who knows anything about apple knows that as soon as a product is released the copiers begin. And not just the ones in Redmond that copy Vista, but actual clones of Apple products. Some examples are the Luxpro Shuffle clone, I think litigation is still going on on that one. Then there was the infamous iMac clone and there are many other examples as well.
It is somewhat inevitable then, that companies are probably working away on their own version of the iPhone. The weird thing here is because the iPhone has been a pre-annoucement, that someone could actually get their version of the iPhone to market before the real deal ships. Weird.
Christopher Null writes over at Yahoo tech about a device I had never heard about until now called the MyOrigo (unfortunate name, btw) that has been around since 2003. Null goes on to point out the the MyOrigo can do many of the things the iPhone can do (such as landscape and portrait switching). Check out a video of the device with an “iPod-like” interface above.

iPhone Possible October ‘07 UK Launch
There’s nothing like a rumour, so this post will come as a bit of joy to many U.K readers out there. At present the iPhone is expected to launch in June in the States, with Europe expecting to see its release toward the end of 2007 and Australia in 2008 (presumably along with the rest of the world). Cingular hold exclusive rights to sell the iPhone with a 2-contract in the U.S but what about Europe and the U.K? My guess is Vodafone will grab the win as they are the number one phone network in the U.K, with O2 following closely behind.
But when can British Apple lovers expect to see the iPhone launch? According to Mad For Mobile Phones, a leaked Apple memo suggests October 2007 will be the month, giving Apple enough time to recover from a possible sell out in the US.
At the minute its really anyone’s guess but a rumour isn’t a rumour without some suspicious information, right? Stay tuned to iPhoneMatters.com for further info on release dates.
