1 Milllion iPhones Activated

imageI can’t help but conjure up Mr. Evil, pinky in mouth, iPhone in lap saying, “1 Million iPods” but apparently word is that that is how many iPhones have been activated by AT&T. I predict a press release from Apple tomorrow (you read it on iPhone Matters first!) stating that 1 million iPhones were sold in 1 week, the most of any Apple product launch, and the most of any mobile phone launch.

The population of the US is about 300 million, that means 1 in 300 Americans have an iPhone, which is pretty darn impressive. I’m no statistician (I can barely spell the word) but this has got to be good for Apple. Apple announced recently that 100 million iPods have been sold. I have to wonder how long, or how quickly, Apple is going to reach that mark with the iPhone, especially once it is released to more markets.

Apart from how many have been sold I’m most interested in how, long-term, this will effect future purchases from people who now have the iPhone. After all switching phones in the past has been no big deal. But once people are hooked to the iPhone will they be iPhone users forever?
