A Great Idea: The iPhone/iPhoto Postcard

Scott Kleinberg has a great idea. Why not encourage more iPhoto use by creating an iPhoto Wifi Store? As he writes on his “iPhone, Therefore I Blog” site:

...say you are visiting Chicago and wanted to send a postcard to your friends in New York. Instead of going to a store, buying a postcard, finding a stop, writing it out and mailing it, you could snap a photo on your iPhone, log into the iPhoto Wi-Fi store, click on send postcard and send one via mail.

This could change the way people take pictures, communicate with people, and find ways to spend more money with Apple. COuld you see yourself using a service like this?

  1. Yeah, I could.  But only if the cost for the iPhonecard was less than the price of a stamp.  The convenience of taking a “wish you were here” picture on the beach at Waikiki and then immediately sending it to your poor co-workers back in cold, snowy, Chicago would be cool!

  2. Wonderful idea.  I would definitely use that if the price was right.  I;d say my price point would be about $1.25

  3. Actually, this would be a great service from anyone, not just Apple,  that wouldn’t even require software to be installed on your iPhone. Set up an account online with the vendor, send them the photo and text via email and they do the rest.

  4. I do it all the time, snap the shot and do an email.

  5. I’d only do it if it actually snail mailed a real postcard.

  6. Thanks for the shoutout ... And in response to No. 5—yes, I am calling for an actual postcard via snailmail that’s initiated entirely on the iPhone. Instead of “designed by Apple in California” it could say “sent from my iPhone.”

Apple doesn’t accept solicited ideas, but if Steve Jobs is reading, maybe he’s liking it.

  8. Perhaps like #3 said, why does it have to be Apple (Other than the integrated convenience factor). Start a company to do it yourself!

  9. There is a sweet postcard service that you can use with your iPhone by emailing a photo to postcards@sodasnap.com and adding your message to the subject line, your friends emails to the email body.

    Check it out: http://www.sodasnap.com
