Apple Admits to Glitches with Outlook Syncing
When you sync your iPhone contacts with Outlook, a few glitches can create some headaches for you. Big surprise. When has a Microsoft application ever flawlessly work with an Apple device?
In a “technical bulletin” put out by Apple yesterday, there are specific glitches mentioned including:
- Some URLs added to an iPhone contact may not show up in Outlook after the data has been synchronized.
- Contacts created with iPhone’s “Custom” labeled phone numbers feature will show up in Outlook’s “Other” files because of software incompatibilities between the two platforms.
- If notes in an iPhone contact record contain any blank lines, unexpected formatting—such as bold text—may occur when the data is ported from iPhone’s software to Outlook.
As we reported before the iPhone launch, many days of road testing occurred to ensure a great initial release. I am starting to think, none of those hours were logged in using real applications or real day-to-day applications.

Come on dude! Those “flaws” are so stinking minor, they shouldn’t elicit a “I don’t think they road tested” response!
I’ve had no problems syncing Outlook at all. The only “issue” that I’ve found is that pictures imported from Outlook to the iPhone do not present as large full screen pictures when the contact call my iPhone. I have to save the original contact picture to my iPhone and then assign it to a contact for the large version to present when called.
The same thing happened with my Treo (Palm OS) so it’s not really a big deal.
The grievances you’ve list above are non-issues. Just typical cross-platform issues. Now if it was cutting out all of the area codes from phone numbers, that’s a real sync issue.

It gets worse.
Last night iTunes silently deleted all my contacts from the iPhone, and I have not been able to get them back. I updated to 7.3.1 and also did a restore. Nothing will get my contacts back into this thing. It says “syncing contacts…” but is apparently not doing it.
Frankly I feel lucky that iTunes didn’t reach into my Outlook application and delete those contacts too.

Does anyone know if Apple iPhone will sync Outlook Notes and Tasks ?
-
No it does not sync Notes and Tasks, but neither did my Treo…
-
Does anyone know how to get contact’s grouped categories in the iphone when syncing with Outlook?

I’m having trouble syncing my iphone to my outlook calendar. Every thing that is updated from my iphone shows up an hour early in my outlook calendar after I sync. Anyone got any solutions to this glitch?
-
Does anyone know why all my outlook events are one hour ahead in my iPhone then they actually should be? For example I have a meeting in Outlook for 10AM and when sync with iPhone it shows meeting at 11AM? Thanks.

I figured out that my iPhone wasn’t set in the right time zone and that is why my phone has been syncing 1 hour behind my outlook. -jay

Errr.. You didn’t know what you were doing then. Treos (both PalmOS and WM) have always been capable of syncing Notes and Tasks.
