Apple Announces “Find My iPhone”
After being hinted at in an early Beta for iPhone Firmware 3.0, “Find My iPhone” has finally been announced and leverages the power of Mobile Me.
“Find My iPhone” allows users to log in to their MobileMe profile and track the exact location of their iPhone on Google Mpas. If your iPhone lost, you can send a notification with an alert even if the ringer is turned off. However, if your iPhone did fall in to the hands of a thief, you can send a command that would completely wipe down your device.

I like this. I’d send a msg saying “you are at [insert address] if you ring me on [insert number] within 5 minutes I won’t call the cops”

Lol, nice idea Chris, I do think that the whole theft deterrent is the real value in this announcement, after all if you can make the phone defunkt just by sending a message to it then it would surely put off a lot of would be iphone thiefs.
