Apple’s latest leaked patent, entitled “Creation, Management and Delivery of Personalized Media Items”, could let you request personalized content from your favorite podcast creators. The proposed abstract, listed below, gives a fairly basic summary of a presumably complex concept.

“Improved techniques to facilitate generation, management and delivery of personalized media items for users are disclosed. Users are able to influence or control content within a media item being personalized. In one embodiment, personalized media items are podcasts. Users are able to influence or control the content in or with a podcast. In other words, a podcast can be created in accordance with a user’s needs or specifications so that the content within a podcast is customized or personalized for the user.”

Basically, Apple would develop a technology that would allow iPhone users to interact with a database of podcast content, and download whatever they desired. We’re not exactly sure how podcasters would cater to each listener in a “personalized” manner, but maybe this system will end up being like a poll-based viewer rating system. Regardless, we’re excited to see how Apple pulls it off.
