In its fiscal third-quarter earnings report Apple reported that it sold 270,000 iPhones in the first 2 days of release. (The third quarter ended on June 30th.)

But even though the numbers are lower than expected, Apple is still confident they will sell briskly through the end of the 4th quarter:

“iPhone is off to a great start—we hope to sell our one-millionth iPhone by the end of its first full quarter of sales—and our new product pipeline is very strong.”

And let’s not forget that they sold 270,000 iPhones in 2 days! For a point of reference, Apple also announced they sold 9,815,000 iPods in the third quarter.
