Apple Thinks 8 Ringtones Is Just Right, 9 Is Too Much

imageI myself am not too crazy about ringtones, to be frank, most suck. It’s almost as if people need a reason to broadcast the pure drivel that pollutes their music libraries and unfortunately passes as the latest and hippest thing. Apple on the other hand seems to agree with me or this just happens to be a very convenient bug: apparently only 8 ringtones can be synced to an iPhone at a time.

The bug came about once users upgraded their iPhones to 1.1.1 but it can be bypassed easily. First off it’s only auto syncing that imposes the very “generous” 8 ringtones for your iPhone. However, if you switch to manually syncing then you can transfer as many ringtones as you please without any limitations.

It’s an odd bug, possibly a leftover from the whole epic crusade against every 3rd party add on known to man which conveniently encompasses ring tones. However the dudes at Ambrosia are willingly to fight Apple on this front, it’d be interesting to see how this plays out.

  1. Only 8 allowed, thats ridiculous! In all honesty, I only use 2-5 custom ringtones, but still why would Apple restrict the amount of ringtones allowed. It’s not like they take up more space than an MP3. Now I’m just as much of an Apple Fan Boy as the next guy, but my respect for Apple is lessening more and more with the way they’re handling these iPhone issues.
