Apple to AT&T, “You’re welcome.”

imageAT&T must be sending Apple a huge fat ham or some nice flowers or whatever companies give other companies. Because AT&T released first quarter earnings yesterday and “net income rose by 22% over last year’s first quarter and income per share was 57 cents compared to 1Q2007’s 45 cents”.

This is, no doubt, partially due to the success (and the exclusivity) of the iPhone on AT&T’s network. If the rumors are true, and Apple approached Verizon before AT&T and was shot down, At&T should maybe start preparing that gift basket to Verizon as well.

In an article on Seeking Alpha: “A key piece of its wireless success has been thanks to the “must-have” technology of the iPhone, which continues to benefit from consumer willingness to spend aggressively when they believe a product worthy of the added cost.”

With the supposed release of the 3G iPhone 2.0 this summer, this can only mean better returns for the communications giant.

  1. Wow, this is poor journalism at its finest.  The fact is that the iphone had very little to do with AT&T’s success.  Quite the opposite, the amount of new subscribers was below expectation, and the iphone sales are behind their projected goals both from Apple and AT&T’s front.

I like how you added the “no doubt” to your statement though, without a lick of substantive evidence or financial data to back up your claims.

  2. Actually, this article is right on, and for those that say Apple and AT&T are behind on sales expectations, let me remind you that Apple clearly announced to Wall Street that they were on target to sell ten million iPhones this year. I do believe that is what Steve Jobs was looking for, and I actually think they will sell closer to 12 million for the year.

Whether people like the iPhone or not, clearly it has changed the entire cell phone market, and the technologies incorporated into it will benefit all of us, whether we acquire them in the iPhone or some other model that takes its cue from Apple.

  3. Actually, no, it’s not...read the analysis that is available, and they don’t attribute the jump in profits to the iphone, or even the cell phone portion at all.

Let me also “remind you” that Steve Jobs said he “wasn’t worried” after journalists ubiquitously questioned whether or not they would reach their goal of 10 million since current sales were lagging far behind that number.

I am an iPhone user, I am not biased against the iPhone, but this kind of fallacious garbage is not worth reading.

  4. Yo, E.T. you really need to phone home on this one. I think your mommy is calling you.

I like how you added the “read the analysis that is available” to your statement though, without a lick of substantive evidence or financial data to back up your claims.

If you’re going to Troll, do it better. Wank.

  5. Ok lets say this , yes it`s a FACT that ATT is better off now. That was all we needed to take home from this “light read”.

  6. @4, I assume that your need to personally attack me was a result of a small penis, or getting beat up constantly in your real life, so you have to assert your alpha male dominance by e-thugging it online.

I also would like to point out that you don’t hold #2 to the same standard by asking him to provide substantive data.  I also like how you throw out the 2001 script kiddy term “troll” too.  It rounds out your puerile screed well.

The increases has been attributed to data, messaging, and over the air downloads according to an abundance of sources, all so ubiquitous that linking isn’t necessary.  Any appropriation of these increases to the iPhone is merely conjecture at best.  The OP was poorly research and cited as well, but I don’t see you holding it to that same standard.  It is because you don’t agree with me that you decided to attack me.  Typical behavior of a “wank”.

Keep it up though, I support you 100%.  It is hard to get beat up every day at school.  At least you have the internet to take it out on.
