Apple just rolled out the App Store- an iPhone-based application that lets users download third-party applications over the air. There’s alot to be said about this, so we’ve divided it into two categories:

Good news-

Developers get 70% of revenue. Not bad!
No charge for free applications
Over-the-air downloads, automatic updates

Bad news

Ships in June, just FOUR MONTHS late of the originally proposed date of February

  2. More bad news, iPod touch users have to pay. AGAIN.

Next time I need an iPod update, I’m getting the 3G iPhone. At least then I’ll KNOW when I’m going to be charged.

  4. It’s not going to be 4 months late.  The SDK was available today…a week late.  There was no mention of when the appstore would be made available….it wasn’t even announced until today.
