AT&T Confirms Not Taking Advanced iPhone Orders

Yeah, the COO of AT&T pimped out the iPhone today at today’s CTIA keynote address. And as, Aaron reported earlier today, there are over a million people interested in information from AT&T about the must-have device. But for me, I am interested in what Randall Stephenson said about advanced sales. According to this post from Information Week:

Stephenson reminded the crowd that AT&T is not taking any advanced orders for the device as the carrier hopes to prime the pump for sales when the device ships in June.

So why in the world would they wait? Isn’t a sale, a sale? There might be a million people interested but I bet that if they did open the gates for pre-orders, they wouldn’t have a million takers. Maybe that’s why they aren’t offering it. Maybe, AT&T would rather milk this “million people” fact for a while longer.
