Dear Apple, You Forgot To Fix My iPhone

imageI had gone through a brief ordeal at the Apple Store in attempting to get my iPhone fixed. It didn’t turn out for the best so as you know I resorted to Apple Care and fortunately they offered to help me with my problem. However it still did not end well, my iPhone currently demonstrates the same defect that plagued it before it was sent in.

However, I will say that Apple Care was very good in cooperating with me and it reassured me that I wasn’t going insane over a grid of white dots. I felt relieved that it would all be taken care of and that I wouldn’t have to deal with any fees.

But when my package arrived Saturday morning via Fedex I was excited to once again use my iPhone and that it would be defect free. Instead I was terribly wrong, as soon as I ripped off the plastic that protected the iPhone and turned it on I noticed the same grid of dots. I entered field test mode on my iPhone and checked the LCD version, it was the same 7 series as before.

You may be wondering if Apple actually fixed my iPhone or just took it and sent it back. First all my data was erased and second, the glass that covers the LCD and touch panels is slightly lowered in the upper left hand corner. This was never there before and this caused a big air bubble to appear in the plastic that covered the iPhone.

But I am mad at Apple, I don’t think it would’ve been too much trouble to turn on the phone and check the LCD to make sure the grid is not there before shipping it back but even if they did, it might have been determined it was too much trouble to attempt another repair.

I will wait and see how this develops before sending in my iPhone once again (it was torture not being able to use my iPhone for less than a week) and report back. The one thing I will praise Apple Care in this situation is their politeness in addressing the problem and that shipping was very fast for a package coming from Texas to California. You do get another iPhone box, it’s the same exact one that comes with every phone but slimmed down.

  1. I see the same grid if I look very closely. However, this is a touch screen device and I do believe that these are the sensors.  So, why again do you think this is a defect?

  2. After a friend of mine got turned away from the Apple store with his grid and you had no luck with Apple Care, I have decided to wait until Apple actually recognizes this problem.  The grid doesn’t really bother me, but then again I have yet to use one that didn’t have the grid.  I really hope Apple will address this problem and stop production of the 7 series, if they do that or if I hear more positive responses to this problem I will send mine in.  The standard warranty is for a year anyway so if nothing happens in another month or two I will probably try to exchange mine and test my luck.

  3. > I am mad at Apple

You are mad. Stark raving mad. Get over yourself, stop obsessing over the “dots”.... it’s normal.  Maybe you look at your TV screen with a magnifying glass you can see dots too.  You’re neurotic fixation is wasting people’s time and money. Your iPhone is not defective or broken. If you can’t live with the screen, then return or sell the phone. It’s not for you.

  4. Oh…just noticed that you are only 15. That explains your immature rants, I guess.

  5. I have the problem with iPhone.
The people at the receiving end of the phone call are hearing echos of their own voice. This happens only on iPhone.
Do anyone else have the same problem?

  6. @Shannon, the dots are the sensors on the iPhone but they shouldn’t be visible.

@voice of reason, I am mad at Apple for not fixing my iPhone, like I said you’d think they would check it before sending it back to me. And where did I say I can’t live with the screen? I love the iPhone besides the defect and the main reason I am concerned is I don’t know if this could develop into a more serious problem.

The dots are not the only thing wrong the 7 series batch of LCDs, the brightness is lower than normal iPhones and the contrast ratio is different.

  7. I am a left handed iPhone user.  If I place my pinky finger around the area of the speaker/mic on the bottom of the device to ‘hold’ the slippery little devil, there is an echo on the other end.  when I remove my finger, the echo dissapears on the other end.

  8. Don’t worry about the dots. I have 2 Nintendo DSes and both have the same dot grid if you hold the screen close. Turn up the brightness if you’re bothered as it hides them more. Also, hold the phone further from your face… The instructions mention that incase the rf waves cause damage. Personally i think u would have to phone lots for any damage but it’s possible. Apparently wifi can damage your crotch if u have a laptop ontop…

  9. I’ve had two iphones now….

the first one was a 7 series, and I could see the grid. The screen was “flickering”, like it had a loose connection to the backlight, so I exchanged it.

The second was a 5 series…...THE GRID IS STILL THERE, but very very hard to notice, almost like it isn’t there, but it IS! Now this one is freezing up on me like every 30 minutes…...getting it repaired throught the mail…...I’ll keep my fingers crossed
