Europe to Get 3G Version of iPhone in 2008

imageThere is moiunting evidence that not only will Europe get the iphone in late 2007 or early 2008, but that 2 versions will be available: the GSM/EDGE version as well as the much bally-hooed 3G version. Here in the states, 3G is not as widespread as it is in Europe.

But when the iPhone was announced early this year, and European carriers were courted, the 3G issue is the one that threatened the success of the iPhone internationally.

But as this post on iPhoneFAQ suggests:

Apple, savvy as they are, are unlikely to release a non-3G version of the iPhone in Europe. Though the lack of 3G on the upcoming US version of the iPhone (June 2007) has been questioned, most US consumers won’t be bothered by the lack of support. Most US customers use their devices for non 3G applications, such as voice calls and SMS, especially due to the lack of 3G services in the states. In Europe, as previously mentioned, 3G has been around for years and cannot easily be ignored.

Every day it looks more and more likme the smart thing to do would be to wait until iPhone 2.0 for all the best stuff. Will this announcement affect initial sales of the iPhone in the United States come June?
