Getting good at typing

Posting here from my iPhone as I get better and better at typing. At first I was really worried about typing on this but I am getting better and better.

Some one gave me a couple of pointers that were extremely helpful:

- when typing hold your finger down, if you miss a letter just slide over to the correct letter. This tip is very very important and made me suddenly understand why the letters pop up like this.
- trust the built in correction. Even if you start misspelling a word keep typing, 9 times out of 10 the error correction will figure it out. It really works!

Something else I realized was that I never really touch types when I used my blackberry, I always had to stare at the keyboard. Same with the iPhone but instead of using a combination of looking at the keys along with the tactile feedback of feeling the keys on the blackberry it is a matter of looking at the letters as they popup.

Neither the blackberry nor the iPhone can replace the speed and ease of a full keyboard but in a few short days I’ve gone from worrying about being able to type on the iPhone to wishing my blackberry had a touchscreen keyboard like this. The iPhone keyboard is the new mobile power-user keyboard of choice.

  1. I completly agree with you. This is proberly the best mobile keyboard I’ve ever used. Even in the few hours I’ve used it, I’m typeing much faster then I ever have on a phone. To be honest, I really don’t look at the keyboard all that much.

    Btw, set from my iPhone.

  2. Typing on the iPhone is pretty easy. Sometimes I am able to type whole sentences without even looking at the keyboard. I think the key is just practicing. I think most people make a bigger deal about the keyboard than is actually needed. For anyone having problems with it just give it some time and try to type on the phone as much as possible.

Like others, this was sent from my iPhone with very few errors.

  3. Yeah, I have to agree, the iPhone keyboard is quite amazing. If you trust it, it works like a charm. It’s that initial use and apprehensiveness that I think makes it difficult to deal with. But once you realize how good the auto correction, and the ease of use on the keyboard is, then you can fly through things. I considered sending this from my iPhone, but I was sitting in front of my computer so I used my Mac’s keyboard instead.
