Just three days after the launch of the 3G iPhone, Apple is already rolling in the Benjamins. Although Apple hasn’t officially disclosed its opening-weekend profits for the 3G iPhone, it is possible to extrapolate an estimated figure using figures we already know. Apple confirmed that at least 1 million 3G iPhones were sold this weekend. iSuppli calculated the 3G iPhone’s actual cost at $174.33 in parts plus $50 in AT&T royalties. A recent survey estimated that 33% of 3G iPhones sold were 8GB models, while 16Gb iPhones made up the other 66%. After a bit of calculations, the estimated total profit for Apple was just around $330,669,000. Obviously, this figure leaves out hidden costs such as product design, R&D budgets, and software development. That said, we’re glad to hear Apple was able to enjoy a successful weekend, despite the activation hiccups.
