iPhone 3G reception issues to be resolved in next firmware update

AT&T must be experiencing a significant amount of angry customer phone calls, because they’ve told Apple they want the iPhone 3G’s reception issue to be fixed in the next software update. A specific group of users have been experiencing severely limited cell reception, although Apple isn’t admitting any problems. A report by Nomura analyst Richard Windsor brought the issue a whole new level of attention, and mainstream media outlets have started to pick up on customer complaints. Windsor blamed problems such as an “immature” Infineon chip, which lacked the quality control to bring normal cell reception to all users. Hopefully, Apple will be able to release a fix in time for the holiday season. If not, we can probably expect an updated iPhone chipset by the end of the year.

  1. Never mind the 3G reception problems. How about the rest of us wjo can get good reception with our iPhones?. And not only just iPhones, AT&T’s service is pitifulat best. I hear more complaints freom AT&T customers then any other. Poor reception, dropped calls, lost service. I thought they were suppose to have more bars than anyone. I loose calls while walking from outside to inside my house. Add more cell towers AT&T and improve your service. Love the iPhone, hate the service.

  2. I experienced a similar problem. When I bought my iPhone though, I first checked Got Reception? (http://www.gotreception.com) - a great resource for finding out where reception problems are most likely to occur BEFORE you lock yourself with a specific carrier.

  3. I don’t have a problem with the service (yet) but would like to know if they can do something about the poor battery life. I’m on my phone a lot and have to charge it twice a day.
