iPhone External Battery?

imageThe iPhone has pretty decent battery life for a smart phone. The iPhone beats out many smart phones when you compare battery life. But, just like any other phone, the battery will run out eventually. This was not a serious issue back when I had my iPod. If my iPod ran out of battery, it was not a big deal. If my iPhone runs out, that is something totally different. My iPhone is my phone, my phone is my lifeline. Without it, situations can become very inconvenient. I have had many such situations.

This is why I am going to be finding an alternate, portable power source for my phone. I am still deciding if I will buy a manufactured model or make my own. I have looked into the Altoids tin as well as tried to come up with something of my own innovation.  I would like batteries and not a solar panel or a generator, because those can be annoying. Plug and Play, not sit and wait. I am not in need of a large battery, so small is best. Hopefully this will solve most of my inconveniences.

Do you use portable power? If so, what do you use? If not, what would you suggest? Have you been in a similar situation?

  1. For an extenal battery I use a rechargable (about 1000 recharges) battery called izap. I bought it for a trip and I love it.  It charges my iPhone really fast and it last like 4 times the amount of the iPhone battery alone. This thing is great and it is from
zap, a battery company that’s been around awile. when I have to Ise edge at conferences now my battery with back up last me all day.

  2. I have the Belkin battery pack for my iPod, and the power connection is the same as the iPhone, so it should work for the iPhone as well.  It runs off of AA batteries, so as long as you have some of those you are all set.  It is small, and kind of cradles the iPod or iPhone.  I have always been happy with its function and inobtrusiveness.

  3. I purchased a geekpod external battery from batterygeeks.com. I would not recommend the company or the device. Customer service is nonexistent, and the external battery pack is very heavy. Maybe they are all like this? Also, after only a month, the connections are loose between the geekpod and my iPhone. IOW, I have to keep playing with the connection to actually insure a good connection and then keep checking it. Horrible.
