iPhone nano at MacWorld?
If you’ve followed Apple for any amount of time you know the deal about MacWorld. For true Mac geeks MacWorld is like Christmas for a six year old. Six year olds believe a oddly dressed fat guy is going to come down the chimney and leave them unspeakably cool toys that they will play with every day for the rest of their lives. Mac fans don’t believe anything that absurd. No, Mac fans believe some uniformed magic Guy will walk out on stage and announce magical toys you’ll use for the rest of your life.
You remember from your childhood that half the fun of Christmas was imagining what you might get and Mac fans (and now iPhone fans) are no different when it comes to MacWorld. Instead of shaking boxes MacWorld followers go on rumors and clues. Well mostly rumors and the more legit a rumor sounds the better.
All that out of the way the latest rumor gaining credibility is… the iPhone nano. Let me be perfectly clear, the iPhone nano is pure rumor so don’t save your cash expecting it to happen. But if you really want to shake the proverbial MacWorld Box here’s two reasons to believe:
First: This post in which sources in China are referenced saying that the iPhone nano is a done deal. According to the post the source also correctly predicted the iPod nano.
Second: MacWorld’s tag line
“Even the small talk will be big”
Small talk, MacWorld that can only mean one thing right? That’s right, the reemergence of SmallTalk! Well basing MacWorld around a mostly defunct programming language seems like a bit of a stretch. What else do you talk on? A phone. What does Steve love? Tiny stuff. What’s smaller than an iPhone? An iPhone nano!
But wait, the reasons don’t stop there. Were does Apple make a lot of money? The app store. Will the iPhone nano run apps? Surely. And what about this finding by our own Chris Howard? You know the post where he discovers that there is a drop down menu for device selection.
It all adds up… but don’t count on anything. It’s MacWorld after all.

Hadley says netbook, you say iPone nano. That’s two to add to the list of devices in the App Store.
I don’t know if we’ll see either device at MWSF09, but I’m sure we will sometime. Especially the nano.
The phone market is very dynamic, with new models every week. Apple can’t just release or update one phone a year. That’s just too slow. And non-Apple zealots don’t mind, it’s what they expect. They cope just fine with RIM bringing out a new Blackberry every month that supersedes the one they just paid a premium for.
Of course, they can’t over do it like that (i.e. RIM), as they have to consider the App Store and app compatibility. But every six months isn’t unreasonable.
I hope Apple brings out an Phone 3G 2nd gen at MWSF09 with much a better camera and video recording. Not that I’ll buy one, but I just think this is an area the iPhone seriously lags in.

“... seriously lags in” ?
You mean doesn’t seriously care about. Just like 99.999999999 % of the iPhone buyers. -
apple will, more than likely make an iphone nano. AND THEN. they will come out with iphone nanos… in 8 different colors. AND THEN, since they have already crossed the ‘touch screen’ bridge, they will….. create a phone with an actual keyboard.. their marketing is extremely predictable, and i’ll sell my soul to jobs if apple goes a different route. ps, dont count on that.
