iPhone Tip- Add More Sources To Installer

imageInstaller is a great distribution service for iPhone users connecting Developers to an active community craving extended functionality. The default choices although great, don’t hold a candle to what additional sources have to offer.

Adding a new source to Installer is easy but you won’t find them within the interface, only those officially sanctioned are allowed in the distributed App so it goes without saying these unofficial sources should be used with a level of caution.

If you navigate to the aptly named “Sources” tab you’ll see where your 3rd party Apps comes from in addition to their listed Source in the info menu. By clicking “Edit” you can choose to delete a Source or add more. In the pop up menu you’ll want to type in the URL correctly. Most end with .xml but the links themselves act as a notifier to Installer when new Applications are available and updates the menu accordingly.

If you’re lost as to where to add Sources (remember people, use caution when handling unknown Sources), ModMyiFone has compiled a massive list which is usually updated by the community.

  1. ModMyiFone is a source you can trust, I’ve had them on my iPhone for a month or two and they have some really good apps available, not to mention some sweet themes for SummerBoard as well.

  2. add http://ride4.org/shai.xml to your installer.  refresh, then go back to installer catagories.  Under “sources” there will be a package called all sources.  this installs nearly 30 or sources in one go!

  4. i had this same problem today, what you have to do is go to installer and install the app program that comes up. this will then once installed bring up the edit menu under sources.

  7. Update the Installer.app to 3.0 . There must be 1 update listed in Installer . Update that and you will see edit in sources.

  9. is there a way to add sources without having to memorize them and then having to keep trying over and over again because you keep getting it wrong. I was thinking maybe along the lines of a plugin for safari where you click a source link and it adds it to installer. Thanks in advance.
