iPod Touch Is Truly A Phoneless iPhone, Runs The Same Binaries

Posted September 7, 2007 2:00 PM by Tanner Godarzi

image It’s funny to see the iPod Touch’s slimmed down and anorexic home screen with so little Apps (my god they forgot Notes!) But a post on Gizmodo seems to indicate that the iPod Touch is truly a phoneless iPhone.

First off, let me say that I am incredibly angry at this new iPod, I cannot find any iPhone news worth mentioning (the Touch still hasn’t shipped yet, will we be bombarded by unboxing pictures for hours).

Now then, Gizmodo mentions that an insider from Apple has said the unofficial word is “They use the same damn binaries.” So while you don’t see the usual suspects of Apps, in theory you should be able to jail break an iPod Touch and even get an Installer.app on there, running fully functional.

  1. I am not suprised by this.  The iPhones were originally scheduled for an earlier release this year and that got held back because apple had completely forgotten phone support for the iPhone.  These things make much better ipods and icameras/iphotoalbums than phones.

  4. iPod touch - finally!  I’ve been waiting for apple to come out with this.  It’ll be interesting to see the chaos when it’s actually released.

  6. I got an iPod touch already, and although it is a “dumbed down iPhone” it’s really quite a neat tool and I like it a lot.
