Is the 3G iPhone… cooking your skin?

We’re used to our electronics getting uncomfortably hot- laptops, smartphones, and game consoles especially- but the iPhone has never felt particularly warm. However, a MacForums member has a different opinion. He claims to have fallen asleep with his 3G iPhone in his pocket, only to be woken up by a burning sensation on his leg. He pulled out the phone, and found it to be blazing hot. In fact, it had melted the plastic around the dock connector. His iPhone’s settings were set to idle after a minute of non-use, so this definitely smells like a case of overheating batteries.
Has anyone else experienced an abnormally hot iPhone?

Well not with my iPhone, but my iPod touch is burning hot after like 1hour of charging.

Hard to say if it’s abnormally hot or not, as I don’t know what Apple’s design speck calls for, but the 3G iPhone is extremely warm. I couldn’t burn my flesh with mine, but it’s the hottest running handheld device I’ve ever owned.

My Iphone Overheated while on the charger, cut off and then restarted itself with an empty battery after only 10 days. So I took it back to the store, they offered me a refurbished one. I said no because I was still within my 14 so they took mine back and ordered a new one. That was last saturday and I’m still waiting…

My second iPhone ( the first was replaced after 9 mos. for low speaker volume) had to be replaced after one week of use because the battery overheated and swelled, cracking the bottom plastic back cover and bulging outward. The guys at the apple store at first thought I had tried to open the case or something but after close inspection they realized my phone was still a virgin. It was the first overheated battery they had seen down here. Hopefully this third iPhone will last longer than the
