Navigon Brings App to the iPhone

Posted July 22, 2009 10:54 AM by Jovan Washington

German GPS firm Navigon has finally released MobileNavigator North America. The price? $69.99 through August 15. After that, it jumps to $99.00. Not bad, eh?

There are currently a few subscription-based navigation apps in the App store, but Navigon’s app is one of the first fully-featured applications in the app store to date without a subscription.

I have a Navigon GPS unit in my car, so I am in love with the software. I have yet to try it out, but hopefully it is just as good.

Take a look at the video to get a good feel for it before you take the plunge:

  1. Paragraph 1 says “$99.00 a year”
Paragraph 2 says “without a subscription”

    So which is it?

  2. You got it! No subscription. Was corrected.

  3. The biggest problem with this navigation, which you didn’t mention, is the fact, that it occupies about 5GB of space on the iPhone, so the users with the 8GB version of iPhone 3G will have almost none free space available after installing Navigon, but then again, the people who pay $99 for Navigon, are also probably the ones who paid a little extra for the 16GB version of iPhone…

  4. This is true. It takes up a considerable amount of space and I definitely would not recommend it for those with 8GB phones unless you dedicate your phone for calls and navigation.
