Navizon GPS Better Than GPS Service Provided By Apple

Posted February 8, 2008 8:34 PM by Don Palmigiano

When I got word that update 1.1.3 had cell tower and Wi-Fi tracking, I was overjoyed. Finally a supported version of pseudo-GPS from Apple. My joy did not last long, because as of recently Navizon, the company that developed the first pseudo-GPS on the iPhone, has added some new services. Now Navizon allows for the positioning system to update every 10 seconds. If your on the road, you can get an up-to-date position instead of hitting the triangulate button multiple times. The service now includes a system bar which runs with the maps application. This allows for easy access to some of the new services. The 3rd party app also includes a buddy positioning system similar to that offered by Helio and Boost Mobile. By adding buddies Navizon users can have a knowledge of where their other Navizon using friends are. This of course can be turned off if someone wanted to drop of the grid. The app also runs in the background which allows for friends to find the user without him/her actively using Navizon.

Right now this is bad news for me. I love this application and its added features, but it is unofficial. I have promised to myself that I would no longer run a hacked OS because of stability. Though this is bad news for me, it may not be the same for you. Go check it out! Tell us what you think of Navizon 2.0 for the iPhone.

As for me, I can’t wait for the SDK! I cant wait for more cool apps like this.

  1. Wow, this is such terrible news, omg, i dont think i"ll survive this ordeal, why oh why did i unjailbreak my phone, now i will never know where my buddies are, i think im gonna cry. I really wish apple included these minor features in thier update, but nooo, selfish apple refused, and now my buddies are stranded on some remote island with all the people from “Lost” and i will never be able to find them because my iphone does not have this buddy feature. I do hope my pals dont get captured by evil ben and his henchmen….Curse you apple!!!!!

  2. I am waiting to buy an iphone when they get GPS.  I have never used an iphone fake gps.

Does this fake GPS even get you to the destination?  My job requires me to go to specific homes each day.  Will this fake GPS take me there or will it take me “around the general area” of the home?  What good is it if it can’t take you to your destination??

  3. So, I could never hack my iPhone’s OS, and hardly new we even had the new GPS thing… I find the maps pretty pointless for directions, unless I’m just looking for a Subway stop around—they’re good for that!

Thanks for keeping your blog so up-to-date on iPhone matters… it seems like it’s the best I’ve found!
