Newsflash: Users Upset About iPhone Price Cut
What happens when you need to market a product, what is one of the first things you consider? Price of course, make it reasonable and consumers will buy. Make it really expensive then slice a big chunk off signals your marketing department sucks, oh yeah and you’re margin is how big?
So naturally some iPhone users are mad about the price cut, as pretentious as you may think I am, I can understand your actions but personally, I am rocking in a different boat. I would’ve bought my iPhone regardless on day one of any future discounts or upgrades.
However MacNN is reporting that some users have been able to receive a discount as long as they purchased the device within 14 days of September 5th but the discount takes a chunk out for the restocking fee. AT&T stores on the other hand are carrying the same policies as Apple even if it conflicts with company policy.

Sucks for those early adopters.

There are two views I have on this price slash. First off, I have seen it reported that Apple was planning on doing this price cut before the release even happened. If this is the case, I find it to be BS on Apple’s part. If this was planned it is them taking advantage of their loyal customers who they knew would go out and buy the phone right away. That is not only wrong to do to these customers, but it is simply bad business.
If this price cut was not planned and Apple decided to make the move in order to simply sell more, I am a little more understanding. I still think it is wrong to cut prices at such an early stage of the release, but I can understand wanting/needing to sell more.
If Apple did plan this cut before the phone was even release, I think that customers should be entitled to a full $200 refund. If this was unplanned, I do not think a full refund is needed, but I do think Apple needs to make a statement to these loyal customers and at least give them a discount at the Apple store or something like that.
I am happy with my iPhone and do not regret paying $600 for it. If that was the price today and I didn’t have one, I would still pay it. I do not feel ripped off, but instead cheated by Apple. The price cut seems like a slap in the face to loyal Apple customers who are the reason iPhone is the success it is.

Apple has hurt themselves PR wise with the whole iphone price cut and then the $100 credit in response to the backlash. I think they are now on the defensive from a PR standpoint.
