imageRumors swirled amongst the Blogosphere about which European carrier would get the iPhone. Early on it was suggested Orange could carry the popular device due to their lack of any restrictions that would be set in place. Them it was rumored Vodafone would get the iPhone but now it seems O2 won over Apple.

Oh and before this it was rumored that T-Mobile would get a little iPhone action. I for one am glad all the rumors for some of the European iPhone release have been quelled.

O2, have fun with that iPhone and reader prepare to ponder who will carry the iPhone for the other parts of Europe.

  1. Where is this coming from, you realise of course that O2 doesn’t have an EDGE network in the UK? The only UK operator with an EDGE network is Orange! If O2 really have got the iPhone deal in the UK, then the European release of the iPhone will have to be 3G.

  2. Lots of “experts” have long been saying that a european introduction would require 3G, so, if true, this is not so surprising.

What you can count on at this point, is that Apple always realized that for them to reach their goal of 10 million iphones sold by end of 2008, the majority of sales would have to come in Europe.  So…count on it…Apple has a plan.  Just because they are so good at concealing their plans, doesn’t mean that the plan is not working.

I predict lines of people waiting to buy the initial iPhones in (cough!...sophisticated) Europe.
