O2 Hoping for U.K iPhone Rights
As a user of O2UK in England, this news comes with open arms, although I’ll try not to jump the gun.
According to VNUNet, O2 are currently holding talks with Apple regarding the exclusive rights of the iPhone and with news that the device will now be holding an 8 hour battery life (up from 5) and a scratch resistant screen, demand is surely going to be high for what some people regard as the second largest mobile phone carrier in the U.K, at least, behind Vodafone.
IT Week conducted a survey with a variety of mobile phone carriers, Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile included, who all declined to comment on whether or not they have held talks with Apple. O2 UK, however, has suggested that all the other carriers are in the same boat as them.

Interesting, but unless Apple release a 3G version of the iPhone into Europe, they pretty much have to go with Orange who have (as far as I know) the only EDGE network left intact in Europe. Everyone else has moved onto 3G…

Definitely puts the EDGE thing into an interesting perspective.
As it stands im a 5 year O2 customer who is currently on month 15 of a 12 month contract (Nokia N70). I am deliberately holding out on resigning due to the impending release of the iPhone. O2 would be an ideal match but they really need to figure out a decent data plan for me to take the bait. The current one is astonishingly expensive.
Otherwise I will use the iPhone pretty much purely for the WiFi in terms of internet use. I have WiFi at Uni, work and home so it shouldnt be too much of a problem to get hispeed access wherever I am (outside of the Tube!).

If it’s O2, I will skip for days
