Possible 1.1.4 battery life issues

If you’re experiencing battery charging problems with your iPhone after upgrading to 1.1.4, you’re not alone. Several users have experience shorter use times after the upgrade, usually around 10-15% less. This may have to do with a supposed bug fix in 1.1.4 that affected how the iPhone behaves in “fringe” areas- places where signal reception fluctuates in and out of range. If the iPhone can’t handle EDGE signals, we’d hate to see how it would behave when using the power-hungry 3G network.

Have you experienced any battery issues after upgrading to 1.1.4? Let us know in the comments.

The other way around. The iPhone uses EDGE, 3G would be the power drain.

  4. Aye, I can confirm this. It usually happens around 20%,I get 1 or 2 bars at best often time going into GPRS/No Internet connection. At 10% I just might as well shut the wireless radio off. This happens in areas where I get 2 bars minimum.

  5. I’m guessing that I am the only one that has achieved better battery life and charging since the 1.1.4 upgrade then?

  6. I upgraded to 1.1.4 yesterday and my battery only lasted 9 hours today, with light use today.  Definitely seems to be an issue.

  7. Serious battery issues for me after upgrading to 1.1.4 - but then followed instructions to kill OpenSSH and now it’s better than ever.

  8. Did everything I could think off from SSH to ask to join networks switch off. What is causing this? My phone hardly makes it through the day just on standby.

  9. Jon, what is OpenSSH?
My battery lasts about 8 hours, on sleep mode most of the day. I’m going on a vacation during spring break next week, and I can’t imagine how horrible the battery could perform on the long plane ride!

  10. For people having trouble. A temporary fix would be to turn of EDGE. This way your battery will perform optimal again untill they fix it in the next firmware. Better no EDGE than no phone I guess.

  12. i dont have 1.1.4, but i switch off ssh, but i dont know how to turn off edge forever, i have never used it, but it turns on by automatic. Also, if you reduce the bright, the battery stays more time alive!
