Reader Input On 3.1 Breaking Tethering
The other day we reported that Apple killed the unofficial tethering hack when users upgraded to Firmware 3.1. We asked you if the newest Firmware update gave you any problems and while most of you replied with the same response I had concerning tethering, a few of you managed to retain your tethering capabilities even after updating. While we can’t downgrade back to Firmware 3.0, we’d like to know which method you used to enable tethering on your iPhone that survived the 3.1 update. Sound off in the comments and list your iPhone model.

Looks like I still have the tethering option after updating to 3.1.
32Gb Black 3GS
enabled tethering via BenM.at
hope that helps! -
I visited the BenM.at site, but it’s all in German. Can anyone provide detailed instructions and links on how to enable this hack? Thank you in advance…

I used BenM.at’s tethering profiles and mine is broke like most folk :( This guy posted a screen grab of his still working on 3.1: http://twitter.com/ghostpressbed/status/3913053712

doubt this. Have you tried to actually use tethering - the fact that you have the option to enable in setting does not prove its working. The reports are that tethering fails and becomes disabled once you try to use it.

Yep! Tethering appeared in my iPhone 3GS “Settings” and stayed on until I connected my iPhone to my Unibody 13” Mac and it disappeared entirely.
