Description
Some of us desire the sleek look of the iPhone but want to protect it without buying a case. The only alternatives are being extremely careful or purchasing a film. The Invisible Shield is a viable option but unfortunately it did not live up to its claims of being Scratch Proof but my iPhone was protected and it does serve a purpose.
Functions
The Invisible Shield is meant to protect your Gadgets (in this case the iPhone) from the every day elements such as keys, dropping it on the ground, throwing your phone or even putting it in a pocket filled with keys.
Shieldzone claims that the materials the Shield is created from were used by the military to protect helicopter blades from wear and tear. This along with several video demonstrations of iPods covered in the Shield being thrown around with nails and sharp objects plus the lifetime warranty won me over.
Using It
Once you get the Shield I urge you to please follow the directions and as they claim it’s not hard but it does require some time. There is a video on how to apply the Shield for iPods but this applies to the iPhones as well.
Normally I usually mess these things up during the Application process and will be forced to take it off due missalignments, debris being trapped underneath or it just comes off itself. The Shield will stay on and is hard to get off which is a good thing. For the front I messed it up by not spraying both sides and my finger tips with the included solution. The solution eases the application process and allows you a few do overs to make sure it’s snug and aligned properly.
For the brief period the screen shield was on I noticed that none of my touch commands, watching video or any functions were impeded and it was nearly invisible, you can barely notice it and if you reflect the iPhone in certain lights you get a translucent stained glass effect which is quite cool.
The backing provides an improved grip on your iPhone to ensure you don’t drop it during a call (however if AT&T drops your call that’s not covered) or watching a video. it may seem like it’s slick and slippery but trust me it’s not. The Shield doesn’t automatically wrap around the corners leaving them exposed but there are a few corner shields to provide protection in these areas.
Docking the iPhone was no problem but you could tell the Shield was on due to the surface and how slick it felt compared to the iPhone. However, I was met with a major, major problem. Although my iPhone was protected the Shield did not hold up as claimed.
Problems
A few pictures and a video I took best summarize the experience I have had so far. If you’d like to see the Pictures please visit these Flickr Links (Link1, Link 2.
Final Word
I would still recommend the Invisible Shield to anyone who wants enhanced protection for their iPhones and experience light to moderate abuse such as dropping their iPhones on concrete or mixing it up with some keys.
Even though Shield Zone claims the Invisible Shield is scratch proof I was able to scratch it with objects people would not normally put near their phones and in this case a higher level of protection is needed. The reason I gave it a 4 out of 5 was that Shield Zone would replace the Invisible Shield for life should it be damaged like this for and my iPhone was still protected.

actually, they don’t claim the film is scratch proof. they only say it will scratch-proof your device, which it does. i have had the film for a long time, however, and it is virtually scratch proof. it takes a lot of effort to scratch it. and, of course, as you mentioned above, that’s where they come in with their lifetime warranty. can’t really go wrong here.

Thanks for the review. I was ready to buy this after seeing it on their site, but after seeing that it isn’t too hard to scratch it or rip it, I think I am going to pass.

I think you should do a test to see if it can be cut with a normal pair of scissors - or better yet, get a little crazy. Go for a chainsaw.
I’m sorry, but I found your video demonstration extremely ridiculous. You proved nothing except that stabbing your phone with a knife and file tip might produce a scratch if you stab it or rub it hard enough.
Unless you carry around a magical miniature pissed off Ninja in your pocket….i’m will to bet this product works quite well. I think i will purchase one now.

@Ronen, I did those extreme tests because of Shieldzone’s bold claims of it being scratch proof and the videos they have up testing it’s durability.

Shieldzone claims its scratch proof, not gouge proof.

i have bought this product, and know others who have used it for months, i can guarantee you that you will not scratch your device with NORMAL use… i dont think that stabbing your devices with scissors and fingernail files would be considered normal wear and tear. this material is very durable, i have it on my blackberry 8839 and also my ipod, and i have a friend that has it on his ipod touch, we carry our devices in our pockets with keys all day, and absolutely no scratches…. also know that the product is designed to PROTECT your device, better it scratch than your devices, and best yet is that the sheld tech warranties its products for life. so you scratch your sheild to badly, give them a call, and they will send you a replacement, all you have to do is send them the defect AFTER you recieve your replacement to avoid being charged. i think a $25 investment is well worth not having a bulky case that WILL scratch!

the invisibleSHIELD is on my iPod nano and it is perfect! that test was dumb, anything will get a hole in it if it is repetitively stabbed with a sharp object…duh! and the product didn’t get scratched, the attacked shield did. If you just swiped it with the knife it wouldn’t scratch, but you had something against it for some reason…
