The iPhone Killer Moniker

image So I was checking out Verizon’s new lineup of phones and then it struck me, it had a touch screen but was automatically dubbed an iPhone killer. But how do you define an iPhone killer or a xxx killer for that matter. However it’s the best marketing a product can get, free publicity as consumers flock to see how well it’ll fare in the technologic collesium.

Really think about, true the new LG Navigator is faster than the iPhone by a considerable margin when it comes to internet connectivity rocking it at 3G. True it has a slide out keyboard which poses as an alternative to the iPhone’s Software based keyboard but what real similarities do the two phones share besides a touch capable screen? Nothing really unless you want to mention they do call people.

It’s amazing to see how the badge of an “iKiller” can be adorned so easily. I’m not knocking the phone, I have yet to actually use the phone but it does serve as a good iPhone alternative if your on Verizon.

Anyways, it seems that that in order to be an iPhone Killer you’ll need to incorporate on of the core elements, add a dash of alternative design and boom, you’ve got yourself a phone ready to fight to the death with Apple.

Heck, even me just Blogging this only confirms that if something is dubbed an iPhone killer over say a Blackberry or Treo killer, it’ll be scrutinized more and more plus add a dash of free publicity.

  1. To be an iPhone killer, a product has to steal sales away from the iPhone.

    That’s it.

  2. to “kill” the iPhone, a product can’t just be a copycat. it needs to offer something new and innovative. look at all the iPod “killers” out there.

    change the paradigm!
