The iPod Touch’s Affect On iPhone Bloggers
The introduction of the iPod Touch has been heralded as a truly phoneless iPhone and probably has a cult following of Blogs dedicated solely to the device just like the iPhone. However, as similar as the iPod and iPhone are, there are some difficulties but most of the time it’s all good
The negative for Bloggers is that the two devices can conflict in terms of news coverage and often times canablize any iPhone coverage but I am very happy to say that this is incredibly rare and will only happen alongside any major iPod announcements. This isn’t something unique to the iPhone and the iPod either, I think it’s safe to say that any major Apple announcement will out shadow any product.
Now onto the good stuff and yes there is plenty of it. First off the iTouch and iPhone are very, very similar in terms of architecture and physical design. This means that some accessories such as Docks could be compatible with both devices. Once you get into the Software it gets a lot more interesting. As you know the iPhone has been unlock, jailbroken and left out to dry but the iTouch, eh, not so much.
However, there has been significant progress made in this area and once the iPod Touch is exposed to the world we’ll get a flood of third party Apps. The iPod has a much more dominant market share than the iPhone for the time being which means more and more hacks will surface. Even then this makes development easier not only for Application Devs but also Web Devs lest we forget that Steve Jobs is so gun ho on that Web 2.0 those cool kids are talking about
