We interview Apple employees about the 3G iPhone

Here at iPhoneMatters, we’ve come across pretty much every 3G iPhone rumor that has ever existed. Some of them are believable, others, not so much. We decided to take matters into our own hands and see what our friendly local Apple store employees had to say about the product they’ll be selling in just over a month. Here’s what we discovered:

1. Apple employees aren’t allowed to talk about upcoming products
According to one of our interviewees, Apple employees can be fired on the ground of even mentioning an updated iPhone. Makes sense to us- nobody wants to purchase a product they know will be outdated in a few weeks.

2. There are absolutely no signs from Apple confirming a 3G iPhone
Seems a few employees weren’t aware of Rule #1. A few told us what they thought the next iPhone would be like, but they also confirmed that Apple has provided them with no information whatsoever regarding a new iPhone. They also said this wasn’t out of the ordinary: they had been informed of the official iPhone launch date just three days before shipments started arriving.

Granted, our quest to get information from Apple Store employees was rather inconclusive. One thing’s for sure: if the 3G iPhone is for reals, you won’t be hearing about it from your friendly Apple Geniuses.

  1. I asked at AT&T about the second generation iPhone, and the clerk told me that she expected it in June, as AT&T is upgrading to 3G by then.
