Apple’s recently released iPhone SDK package reached over 100,000 downloads today, according to the company. Let’s take a look at what these figures mean. First of all, one hundred thousand downloads for ANY application is impressive- it even took Firefox a while to start getting a hundred thousand downloads every ten days. But what’s even more impressive is that this isn’t a cool, impressive, and slick-looking application that people are dying to try out, like Firefox was. This is a software developer’s kit, for crying out loud! Being a total non-programmer myself, I can’t think of anything less exciting than an SDK program. That said, as an iPhone user I can’t think of anything more exciting than a hunded thousand developers currently playing around with the tools that are going to bring me the applications I’ve always wanted on my iPhone. I think these numbers are simply fantastic- they’re good news for Apple, the developer community, and ordinary iPhone users around the world.
