Which Do You Like Best? Picasa or Photobucket

I took a look at two popular photo-sharing sites and realized they both have iPhone capabilities, but which one do you like best?

Photo-sharing and storage sites Picasa Web and Photobucket announced new mobile interfaces a few weeks ago and I took a good look at both of them.

While m.photobucket.com and picasaweb.google.com/mobile or mobile.google.com grant access to online albums from any mobile browser, the interface on iPhone’s full Safari browser is wonderful. iPhone’s large, sharp screen is ideal for viewing slide shows, but to this day, users are still unable to directly upload iPhone photos to Web sites.

While this leaves Picasa as a simple mobile photo viewer, Photobucket’s site provides an account-linked email address for users to send photos that are then sent to their Photobucket accounts.

Picasa’s more polished interface offers a much cleaner user experience that also makes better use of the iPhone’s dimensions, and also provides a quick link to Google other mobile services, like Google Reader, the calendar, and Gmail.

Unlike Photobucket, Picasa’s interface changes when you flip you iPhone horizontal. A wonderful thing when you have the widescreen pictures.

So which one do you use? If Picasa had an email function where you could send you pictures take on your iPhone to your album, Google Picasa would be far superior than Photobucket.

However, those who don’t mind that missing feature would not mind Photobucket’s pretty cool feature list. Check them both out and try for yourself!

  1. Both services are probably the best for the iphone.  But honestly you get more out of photo sharing sites in their full version.  Picasa is a great tool for desktop organizing, and Pixamo is great for secure and efficient online sharing.

  2. I agree with alex. Its hard to use a photo site on the screen size of an iPhone. I’d check out http://echopic.com , it doesn’t have an iphone optimized version, but its very easy to use though.
