Will There Be A Line For The 3G iPhone?

imageEdge? Cellphone and Wi-Fi positioning? Blah. We want 3G. Faster download times and more accurate positioning are only two of many features consumers hope will be in the next generation iPhone. If my favorite rumor comes true, the new phone should retail for $199 (unlikely).

With a brand new crisp design and the reality distortion field in full effect, will users line up around the corner for the new phone? Is the hype equal to what it was the same time last year? I think not; the 3G iPhone is no revolution as the original iPhone was. I am no analyst, and Apple does have that “Wow” factor. We shall see.

Can you resist the reality distorter that is Apple? Will you be lining up for the new phone?

  1. Considering the first iPhone had a queue of… 5 people up here in Cambridge, I don’t expect to see much of a rush for the new one.

I own the current version and will probably upgrade, but I certainly won’t be losing any sleep over it.

Well… unless some new unexpected features come out and blow me away!

  2. Why line up for the iPhone?  Just order it online and have it sent to your residence.

Now, in NYC at the Apple Cube store that’s a whole different story.  Being seen on line sitting outside in a lounge chair is more like an outing or picnic and getting interviewed by reporters is a statement in Apple coolness.  That much I understand and is worth the wait.  Being cheered on with clapping hands by the concierges is a heck of a lot of fun.  Believe me, there will be long lines even if the AT&T store down the block has plenty of subsidized iPhones for sale with no waiting.

Maybe the people up in Cambridge will have finally caught on to the iPhone by now and ten people will show up.

  3. I won’t line up for it. But I will buy it the day it comes out.
