Will You Upgrade for a 16GB 3G iPhone?
According to various sources, a “top secret” German T• Mobile ad points to a 3G 16GB iPhone model. Chances are the price reduction of the 8GB U.S. iPhone model last week is paving the way for a newer 16GB 3G model to be released here in the states by Christmas.
But will a hard drive upgrade and a faster network compatibility be enough to justify the higher price tag? Well, it depends on what the new price is. It also depends on who Apple will try to sell this new iPhone to.
If Apple is hoping to upgrade early iPhone adopters with this bigger, faster iPhone, I think they should re-evaluate their plan. Regardless of what early iPhone users think of the price reduction and makeup money, without a serious effort to address many of the software issues and functionality inadequacies with the existing iPhone, I don’t think an extra 8GB is going to cut it.
Are there really space issues for existing iPhone users? I haven’t heard too many complaints that their 8 gigger is busting at the seams with music and videos. Haven’t we grown used to the speed limitations of EDGE?
Let’s say that Apple releases a 16GB 3G version of the iPhone next month and sells it for $599. Would you upgrade?
For me, the new iPhone would need to also have iChat, real picture SMS, Copy/paste functionality, and Outlook support to think about upgrading.
What do you think?

I wont be upgrading any time soon. Edge and the 8gb are fine for me. I would hope that MMS would be available via a software update.

If they think I’ll be upgrading anytime soon then Steve MUST be delusional. My 8GB and EDGE are more than adequate for my needs. Also, what do people think they’ll be getting with 3G in the next 12-18 months anyways? (Unless AT&T has agreed to spend millions to upgrade their exiting infrastructure - Im talking IP transit, not radio infrastructure) I’ll wait for a more susbstantial upgrade before I consider buying a new one. As for features) Im thinking Installer.app is JUST fine

I’m happy where I am. With a little management, I have all the room I need in 8GB.
I don’t forsee any updates that do not directly benefit Apple’s bottom line. iTunes Store via WiFi? They’ll push that onto my phone in an instant. But iChat? Don’t hold your breath. Any other apps that don’t make Apple money? Look! You’re holding your breath! You’re turning blue!

I agree with everybody else. Apple has burned us by promises and not delivering on improving the version of the iphone we currently have out now. Bad enough he dropped the price and now he wants to put out a new version without delivering on updating the software on the current iphone to atleast have MMS capabilities and copy and pasting to say the least. He has to realize, the old customers are the ones who will buy this new phone and not keeping us happy isn’t gonna cut the mustard. Edge and Wifi is perfect. A 3g option will only wear out the battery and my memory is still barely halfway used. Just upgrade what we have first through software updates, make us smile and may be a hardware update might be taken more kindly. So basically the answer is probably not. Not unless it looks like a space ship, has GPS and make popcorn.

iPhone is the best cell phone ever owned and I certainly don’t need more the 8 gigs. But, will I upgrade if given the opportunity? Absolutely.

If the new version supports full-on real-time GPS like a NUVI or a Magellan - then I’m in - I don’t care what it costs. Mount it to my dashboard, plug it into my BMW’s iPod jack - navigation and tunes on the 405 and the 101 everyday? yes.

I don’t even have a phone connection so no, no worries here in Paraguay.
That said, I haven’t had so much fun in my entire adult life since I bought and iPhone and had it shipped down here from the states.
WiFi, music, websurf at the coffee shop, maps, email pictures on the fly ... no. I’ll hold. Maybe in 2008 when I’m on a monthly contract, vs. the prepaid plan. -
Please Apple - for the love of God - before GPS or other fun services - install voice dial software on the iPhone - I like my iPhone, but I can’t use it effectively in my car or in many other places without this function. I can’t believe more people haven’t been hurt on the road yet. How can Apple live with itself knowing this basic feature on most phones is not yet supported on the iPhone?

There’s Mail (same as Mail in Mac OS X) why Apple would put Outlook in the next iphone? Moreover Outlook is a M$ stuff which is even more impossible for Apple to have it in there. Use your common sense please!

and the storage in iphone is hard drive but flash drive! if iphone is using hard drive it would not be just 16GB, 8Gb and 4GB…. it’ll the same as iPod classic 160GB!!!
