Woz Favors Motorola RAZR over his iPhone for Voice
When it comes to the Steves, you have Jobs, the showman and Woz, the introvert. Sure Steve Jobs will get you all hot and bothered with his “And one more thing"s and “Boom!“s but when it comes to actual computing insights, i go with the man himself, the creator of the Apple 1 and 2, Steve Wozniak.
So when I read that the Woz finally broke his silence and told USA Today tech writer Ed Baig what he thought of his iPhone, I was all ears.
[Woz] loves the appearance, human touch, Safari Web browser, and messaging on iPhone — plus the fact that the device is “more like my computer and less like other smartphones I’ve used.”
That’s cool. He loves what I love. he loves what most people love about their iPhones. But then Woz, whom I assumed was a “Live Apple or Die” type of guy pulled a Gap Band and dropped the bomb on me when he admitted that he still uses his Motorola RAZR for talking.
Yes. You heard correctly, “His RAZR”. Woz finished up with a few more requests like voice dialing, a 3G compatible version, and a thermometer (in Celsius, no less). Here’s a message for the Woz:
I’m totally on board with wanting the voice dialing and the 3G, but thermometer? My iPhone would say 100 degrees all the time because I keep my iPhone in my pocket. Besides, with how hot my battery gets I don’t think you can get an accurate read.

He said he wanted the temperature widget to show the temp in Celsius, not a built in thermometer. How could you get it THAT wrong….

@ Eytan
The temp widget does show the temp in Celsius. Hit the info button in the corner and on the back you have the option for °F or °C.
As far as Woz goes, he must have done something special with his Razr because mine was a major P.O.S.

True true
What Woz wants is what the calendar FINALLY has - real time view of the current temp taken from the temp widget, and displayed in Celsius. SOunds pretty doable without any hardware mods (what I mean is the calendar in the dock on the mac always shows 17 unless it is running - on the iPhone it shows the current day of the month and year).
My point was he does not want the iPhone as a THERMOMETER…. he just wants a display of the temp in Celsius on the main screen. I would argue that if they made the temp appear on the mail screen, they would by default have it honor your unit settings (whether Fº or Cº)
What I wish it had was cell tower triangulation, so as things like the temp, the maps, etc - could all figure out where you are based on the reception from the cell towers. I think that could also be implemented in software…
