You know what’s not an iPhone killer? The Prada II

imageThe iPhone isn’t for everyone. If you’re just after style there are better choices. Of course any phone that is mainly about style isn’t an iPhone killer no matter how much some folks think they are (original Prada review here). Which brings us to the Prada II by LG.

You know LG, the company used to be called Goldstar and made crappy microwaves but morphed into a high end electronics maker. The company makes a ton of cool stuff and the Prada II is no exception. The thing looks fantastic and it will look very cool if you whip it out at the local Starbucks. Well, as long as that Starbucks isn’t in the US because the Prada II isn’t being sold here for some odd reason. Even if it was it wouldn’t be an iPhone killer. No amount of spec sheet comparison will reveal the truth but the name is enough: Prada. Prada is a fashion company and it tells consumers that the phone is all about looking good. Which is fine, it is a great way to hit part of the market but it won’t counter Apple’s message that the iPhone is all about the internet to go and apps in your pocket.

If that isn’t enough proof that the Prada II isn’t an iPhone killer you can look at the sales of the Prada, um, I. It sold a million phones. A million phones is a lot of phones. If Palm could sell a million Treos outside of the US they’d be pleased but compared to the iPhone it is a non starter.

The Prada II does have one thing going for it, it has a watch accessory that connects via Bluetooth. It doesn’t make a lot of sense but when you’re wearing Prada you love to accessorize right?
