What is the iPhone Extreme?

Rumors were flying yesterday when it was discovered that built into the HTML code of one of the Apple iPhone web pages is a reference to “iPhone Extreme.” What could the iPhone Extreme possibly be? Is it the name of the 3G iPhone? Is it a ruggedized iPhone? Or is it just a web programmer having some fun with Apple fanboys? Regardless, it is fun putting some ideas through the rumor mill.
So what do you think iPhone Extreme is? Take our poll, or, if it isn’t on the list, post a comment with your idea.

It seems like just yesterday we were anticipating the arrival of the iPhone in the United States and were worried about a host of issues: the battery life would not be long enough. The iPhone will be too slippery. 8GB is not nearly enough space.
But now, 3 months later and at the eve of a European iPhone launch, some of these concerns have been reduced to just distant memories of agitation.
For me, all my initial concerns before I got my iPhone has exceeded my expectations now that I use the thing. What about you? Take our poll.

HTC Touch Vs. iPhone Vs. Nokia N95: Apparently iPhone Wins In Usability
As much as we want to gloat to our friends, family and random people on the Subway how awesome our iPhones to any mobile device, we’ll eventually reach the point where words mean little and some solid proof will be needed to prove the iPhone’s divine lineage extravagance. Fortunately for you, Texas based Perceptive Sciences put out a study concerning usability on an iPhone, I’ll let you guess what which one won out, after all we’re not called HTC Touch Matters or N95 Matters…
The usability study has people who’ve never used any of the three phones, an iPhone, Nokia N95 and HTC Touch. The test vary from changing the volume to changing various settings within the phone. Of course all of this was time and the iPhone beat out both competitors easily.
However with any study, there are so many factors that affect the initial outcome so keep your iPhone outbursts to a minimum.

Hacked iPhone Users: What Will It Take to Get You to Update Your iPhone Software?
It is downright scary these days to do software updates on the iPhone. With Steve Jobs declaring war on all unlocked and hacked iPhones, every update is a “fingers-crossed” situation when it comes to preserving all your mods and hacks. Sure, people can deal with restoring back when they need service or re-installing the AT&T SIM before visiting a genius Bar, but what about the rest of the iPhones. You know, the ones where nothing is wrong with them?
For me, it’s going to take a seriously sweet addition ot the iPhone software before I run the risk of losing my hacks. I’m talking GPS, iChat, and Outlook support. Anything less and I think I will pass on the update. But what about you? What would you need Apple to include in a software update before risking losing all your hacks?

In this article at PC World, 90% of iPhone owners are happy with it, but they sound off on what could be improved. An excerpt from the article:
“A little more than a month after the Apple iPhone went on sale, nearly 90 percent of iPhone owners who answered a PC World survey said that they love their almost-new toy. But they also had a few complaints—most notably regarding the iPhone’s voice and data networks—and lots of suggestions.”
I don’t own an iPhone personally, but one thing that bugs me is the iPod part, as well as other parts of the iPhone are locked out unless you activate it. I have heard from several people they would purchase it to use as a widescreen iPod alone. To check out the story, click here to head to PC World.

iPhone to Create “Virtual Upheaval” and Motorola Will Suffer
I think they should change Changewave’s name to The iPhone Survey Company. Changewave is back and this time they have talked to over 3000 people who are planning on buying a new cell phone in the next 6 months.
According to the survey, reported on PC World, 16% of those participating said their phone of choice will be the iPhone. Extrapolate that nationwide and that could mean some serious numbers.
The study also comments that Motorola is the one that will suffer the most by this surge by the iPhone. It’s no surprise as they are #1- they have the most to lose.
While Motorola retains the largest (31 percent) market share, the company has lost two percentage points—while Apple has already picked-up one percent of the mobile market according to ChangeWave.
Another interesting stat accumulated by Changewave shows that 77% of iPhone users claim to be “very satisfied” with their phone. I will look forward to hearing how that number increases or decreases a year from now. I content that the “specialness” of owning an iPhone right now does more for the user’s perceived satisfaction than the actual phone’s features and reliability do.

My iPhone Has Not Replaced My iPod
I love my iPod more than anyone else I know. So during those 6 long months anticipating the release of the iPhone I was convinced that I would be replacing my existing iPod with my new Phone when it came to music listening.
After a month of iPhone ownership, I can tell you that is definitely not the case. I don’t know why it is but I haven’t listened to one complete song on my iPhone yet. I haven’t even used the earbuds since I tested them out the day I got the iPhone. The only time I even go to the iPod feature on my iPhone is when I am showing off the features to friends and colleagues or when I am testing things out for iPhoneMatters.
I think part of my reason for not using my iPhone as an iPod is I don’t want to waste valuable battery time on music when I have a perfectly good iPod Video in my bag.
Which leads me to a question for you readers: Has the iPhone replaced your ipod or do you continue to use your iPod for music and your iPohone for everything else? I mean, how many people… more...
The iPod, the iPhone, What Next?
Despite what some people have said about the actual numbers associated with iPhone sales and activations, there is no doubt that Apple has produced another innovative product that will change the industry.
So what comes next? Will it be just a series of updates to the iPhone? Will they merge the iPhone and iPod lines? How about leveraging the multitouch screen and releasing a tablet MacBook? What do you think is next?
