AT&T Clearing Old iPhone 3G Stock, Allowing Early Upgrade Pricing

Posted March 30, 09 5:00 AM by Tanner Godarzi
Categories: AT&T Deals

image In preparation of a new iPhone this summer, AT&T is taking the chance to slowly clear out its inventory of current iPhone 3Gs by allowing more customers to buy the phone at a subsidized price.

The new qualification for early upgrade pricing means customers not as far in as they should be in the contracts get the same price discounts that wouldn’t be available until they were farther in their contract. The subsidized pricing comes out to $199 and $299 for the 8GB and 16GB models respectively which is the original early upgrade price for the iPhone and the discount available to those upgrade from a 1st generation iPhone. The extended availability for this offer comes alongside Apple and AT&T allowing contract free iPhone sales starting this week. This offer is limited to current subscribers who can only buy one iPhone 3G using the offer.

$99 iPhone a reality (with strings)

Posted February 23, 09 3:15 PM by Chris Seibold

Head over to your local Best Buy and you can get an iPhone for just $99. Well if a Reward Zone member anyway.. If you never signed up for the program (perhaps you have a fear of those little cards on your keychain) you’re out of luck. AT&T has offered the iPhone for $99 before but that was for a refurbished model. So if you’ve been waiting for a hundred dollar iPhone discount and you’re a Reward Zone and you live close enough to a Best buy to drive you’re all set. The usual two year commitment applies (of course).

The bigger question is what’s with the frenzy for $99? Analysts yat about it and every time an off shows up people go crazy. In the big scheme of things that hundy you keep in your pocket is no big deal. Let’s see: 24 months of service at 85 per month laying out over $2,000 for the lifetime of the contract. The hundred dollar saving is less than 5% over the lifetime of the contract. But one supposes that AT&T offering to knock $4.16 per month off your next 24 bills just isn’t as sexy as $99 iPHONE!!!

imageMISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO –November 5, 2007 - Helium Digital, a Canadian company specializing in trend forward accessories for digital devices, has announced the launch of their new HD-010 3.5mm Headphone Adapter with Microphone. The Helium Digital 3.5mm Headphone Adapter with built in microphone will allow all headphones that use a standard 3.5mm headphone jack to be used with devices such as the Apple iPhone®, or any other device with a recessed headphone port. In addition, the built in microphone will add phone call functionality to any regular set of stereo headphones.

The recessed headphone port on the iPhone® prevents many standard 3.5 mm headphone jacks from fitting the device properly. With the 3.5mm headphone adapter with microphone, you can be sure that your headphones will work with your device, regardless of the brand. The addition of a built in microphone ensures that you are available to take your calls, even while listening to music.

Unlike some other headphone adapters available for the iPhone®, the HD-010 will act as an extension cable, carrying both the stereo audio and microphone signals from your device. This allows your headphones to handle the… more...

Rumor: Apple May Be Interested in 700 MHz Spectrum

Categories: Deals Legal Rumor

imageAn interesting post comes our way from Engadget, a rumor circulating around states that Apple may be interested in the 700 MHz spectrum bid which starts in January of next year.

While this isn’t confirmed yet it is very interesting yet plausible for Apple. Currently Apple is tied to AT&T as the network for its iPhone, if Apple were to win the 700 MHz spectrum which is being fought for heavily by companies much bigger than Apple it would allow a wireless service to be set in place and deliver data faster than current cellular technologies could.

Sidestepping the carrier altogether in order to provide the service for the iPhone would be in Apple’s view, Steve Jobs had been vocal of his distaste for cellular companies.

But even with the speculation in that Apple could cash in through iTunes to build this network, making it work in the way a normal cell phone would without any problems and rolling out the network across the country would be a monumental task, possibly too much for Apple which brings up the question of why Apple would even bother with the spectrum even if it… more...

Decisions, Decisions: Unlocked iPhone For A Nissan 350Z

Posted August 28, 07 2:00 PM by Tanner Godarzi
Categories: Deals

image It’s not often that cars can be obtained easily (usually dealers want your first born but that’s another story…) yet in this case an unlocked iPhone netted George Hotz of iPhone hacking fame a brand new Nissan 350Z and 3 8GB iPhones.

If you remember, George had offered the unlocked iPwn on eBay but due to fraudulent bids (probably some from Princes in foreign countries) and hassles with bidders he was forced to resort to other measures.

Fortunately for him Terry Daidone, the founder of Certicell had offered a Nissan 350Z along side 3 8GB iPhones for the unlocked beauty. Even still George intends to unlock all 3 for the people that contributed greatly to his project.
