Motorola RAZR is Still on Top

When the Motorola RAZR was first introduced, it quickly became one of the most common phones around. Till this day, I still see them everywhere and it is interesting to note, despite already having four years on the market and widely considered old news, it’s still outselling the iPhone.

They haven’t actually published their exact figures, but the researchers say that it’s currently outselling every other phone in the US, including the iPhone.

With this being said, you would assume they are still making a huge profit to this day, however, it is also interesting to note that they are making a lot less money from the sale of the RAZR.

“Regardless, the RAZR isn’t necessarily the most successful device for Motorola, which now makes very little from each RAZR sale and has failed to develop a strong-selling replacement, including its direct sequel.”

At the rate of iPhone sales, the iPhone will perhaps be as common as the RAZR. Only time will tell..

iPhone to Create “Virtual Upheaval” and Motorola Will Suffer

I think they should change Changewave’s name to The iPhone Survey Company. Changewave is back and this time they have talked to over 3000 people who are planning on buying a new cell phone in the next 6 months.

According to the survey, reported on PC World, 16% of those participating said their phone of choice will be the iPhone. Extrapolate that nationwide and that could mean some serious numbers.

The study also comments that Motorola is the one that will suffer the most by this surge by the iPhone. It’s no surprise as they are #1- they have the most to lose.

While Motorola retains the largest (31 percent) market share, the company has lost two percentage points—while Apple has already picked-up one percent of the mobile market according to ChangeWave.

Another interesting stat accumulated by Changewave shows that 77% of iPhone users claim to be “very satisfied” with their phone. I will look forward to hearing how that number increases or decreases a year from now. I content that the “specialness” of owning an iPhone right now does more for the user’s perceived satisfaction than the actual phone’s… more...

Motorola’s Market Share to Drop 17% Thanks to the iPhone

Another consumer cell phone survey and yet another vote of confidence for the office marked, “iPhone Team” in Cupertino. In a new study by ChangeWave, “9 percent of respondents are “very” or “somewhat likely” to buy the iPhone in June while another 7 percent are likely to buy the iPhone as a gift.”

And if the iPhone gets discounted (as rumored) to under $300, an aditional 10% of respondents have said they will jump on the iPhone bandwagon as well.

If all of this true, service providers like Verizon Wireless could get burned as existing customers migrate to Cingular. But on the other end of the losing stick will be manufacturers like Motorola, who in this study, is predicted to lose up to 17% of its marketshare.
