“The Fourth Largest Platform For Internet” Goes to… iPhone?
The iPhone is now the 4th largest platform for Internet browsing! (Yea! Go Apple!) It has only been about 8 months and the iPhone already holds 4th place. This being said, it is amazing that the iPhone has gotten this much attention at a young age. At the same time this makes perfect sense, because Mobile safari is the most advanced and user-friendly browser currently on the market. The 3 platforms that are ahead should be obvious. They are all based on computer Operating Systems. Windows leads with (92%), Mac is second at (7.5%), and Linux with (.65%) is a distant 3rd; the iPhone, at present, has (.14%) of Internet users. The iPhone is right behind Linux with only about half percent difference.
What do you think of these figures? Do you think the iPhone will ever beat out Linux for 3rd place? I do; iPhone is young and vibrant. Apple clearly knows what it is doing, despite early skepticism claiming that Apple was new to the mobile market. Bravo Apple.

In our busy lives we rely more and more on mobile devices such as the iPhone to aggregate our news. Short of summarizing top stories and late breaking items, we’ve often turned to reading it outright or watching a Podcast on it. PimpMyNews takes that a step up by converting it to an audio feed specially formatted for the iPhone.
PimpMyNews recently launched in December but a recent announcement at Macworld brought delight to iPhone and iPod Touch users everywhere: a mobile App was being launched. We were contacted by John Atkinson, the CEO and Co-Founder of PimpMyNews to take a look at the newly developed iPhone App which functions just as described.
The App takes an aggregated feed of the main page along with the audio portion of it and formats it in a simple web page that works seamlessly. The only concern would be the accuracy of the audio. It’s nothing close to a human voice but you’re able to distinguish what is what easily.
The App is free for anyone to access but customizable for anyone who has created an account.

Clever Hack Adds Speed Dial To Your Home Screen
NAte True has developed a very simple method to add a phone number to your home screen using Safari’s built in Web Clip.
It works by entering the URL Phone Number.tel.qlnk.net into Safari which is routed through Nate’s own server. You’ll be presented with a “Call” popup which you will need to decline. You can then add it to your home screen.
However, there is a possible privacy concern since the link is requested every time you call that. For the security nuts out there, you can check out Nate’s Blog post.

The iPhone as an Internet Device is one of the greatest devices engineered by Apple but for the information savvy, streamlining all of these services together is essential and up until now that need has not been met. Picking up the opportunity, Efiko Software revealed iClueless, a search engine for the iPhone, on steroids.
IClueless presents a homescreen-esque menu that allows you to search various engines such as Google, Business, Yahoo, Movies, Wikipedia, Answers, IMDB, TMZ, Google News, ESPN, Yahoo! The lack of copy and pasting got you down when needing street addresses put into Google Maps? Fret not young suburban adventurer, iPhoneSender makes the process easy.
In a nutshell, iPhoneSender is a simple Safari Bookmarklet that takes a given address on a web page and then emails it you in a Google Maps friendly format. The whole process makes us rather lazy, but if you’re in a hurry to input a local train station to plan your escape from snipers Jason Bourne, it could work.

more...Web Apps: Connect Four
Connect Four anybody? Connect Four is also sometimes known as Four-in-a-Row or Four-in-a-Line. Asside from battleship, this is another game that I enjoyed playing during the few minutes I had for recess at my elementary school. Yet another childhood (board) game brought back as a web app on my iPhone. All a player has to do to win is line up four of thier pieces either diagonally, horizontally, or vertically. The game design was executed cleanly, therfore the game is very responsive. There is no P2P option, so the player faces a series of CPUs which increase in level as the player progresses.
Perfect for a day when there is nothing else to do. Add this one to your selection of iPhone games by bookmarking this link.
more...Web Apps: iDecisive
I am the worst person at making decisions. I cannot choose between two options if they have equal value or validity. That is why I use idecisive. This web app for the iPhone allows for easy decision making (unless you second guess the outcome). If you do not have a coin in your pocket, but have your iPhone, idecisive has a coin flip feature for some serious decision making. If you have more than two options to choose from, do not to worry. Idecisive has a feature which allows for multiple options with labels which you type in. There is also a random number generator, so you may pick a person out of a group. You may specify how many numbers the generator will choose from.
Since I have a horrible time trying to come to a conclusion about something, I have found idecisive to be extremely useful.
Check it out here.

Web Apps: Oh Do Not Forget
This one is not specially made for the iPhone, but works great with Safari. Have you ever thought of something that you needed to remember, but knew you would forget? For those who can empathize with this situation, this app is for you. Oh Do Not Forget allows for a person to send an SMS to the future. If you needed to remember to buy eggs at 9am, just tell ODNF (Oh Do Not Forget). At 9am you will receive the SMS you sent to the future reminding you about the eggs. You can set any date you want in a variety of different ways.
I have used this service many times. It is extremely useful because I do not remember anything. The simplicity of this idea is what amazes me. I cannot believe I did not think of this idea myself.
Point Safari over to OhDontForget to check it out.
Web Apps: iRadio
This is not a native iPhone application. And it does not play music as, iRadio, the native app does. This web application shows the current song playing on major stations across the country. It has the same flip through menu that you are used to navigating through on your iPhone. When you click a radio station you can see the last 5 songs that the station played. Once you click a song you have the following options: you may email yourself the name of the artist and name of the song, get a link to the iTunes Wi-Fi music store page where you may purchase the song, listen to the song on Seeqpod, or read the song lyrics.
Advantages to this app are numerous, but here are a few. This app helps match names to unknown songs. It also helps you choose which station you would like to listen to based on the music choice, as well as avoid commercials.
Tell us how it worked if you decide to use it.
