Finally! An Easy Way To Install Ringtones

Posted September 3, 07 10:00 AM by Tanner Godarzi

Normal Cell Phone are probably laughing at us right now, it’s taking this long to get a simple way to drag and drop ringtones. My old RAZR could take sound files via Bluetooth and use that as the ringer but there is reprieve, Ambrosia has released iToner 1.0, a tool that allows ringtones on the iPhone without jail breaking it.

Call me skeptical but it seems a little hard believe even though I trust Ambrosia Software. The App does seem to work (I can’t explain how) and it functions very nicely. Plug in the iPhone, drag and drop your clips then sync it over.

In addition you can access music from your iTunes library, playlists and even DRM encoded songs.

Check out the link and the Demo. iToner retails for $14.99 and has a 30 day demo.

6th Generation iPod Delayed Because Of The iPhone? Rumored To Debut January

imageLast year rumors swirled around the yet to be released 6th generation iPod. Unfortunately this turned out to be the designs and specifications for the iPhone. However this isn’t stopping the rumor mill from regenerating yet to be confirmed information concerning the long delayed iPod. Piper Jaffray has put out a report stating a new iPod should arrive anywhere from now and January 2008.

I actually think that the timing of a 6th generation iPod was put off until after the iPhone for a couple of reasons. First off the iPod has gone far enough in the design scheme (in my opinion) when it comes to shiny metals and white plastics. Switching to a more iPhone-esque design would be a massive improvement not only in terms of sales but in functionality.

In addition, Steve stated at his internal Keynote that an OS X based iPod could be coming, why would OS X need to be running on something as simple as an iPod? perhaps new features could be coming around that would basically be an iPhone without the phone.

However there could be a… more...

RUMOR: Apple to Sell Nintendo Games for iPhone Via iTunes Store

Rumor, rumor, rumor. Did I mention this was a rumor? NoHeat.com is reporting that Nintendo and Apple have teamed up and Nintendo games made for the iPhone will be available to purchase on the iTunes store for $29 each.

Given that there is no reliable source to this news, there is a huge difference between what I want to say and what I should say:

What I should say: ”This is a rumor and I won’t believe it until I see it.”
What I want to say: “Aww Yeah! That pwns.”

When asked whether selling games on the iTunes store would cut into sales of the Nintendo DS:

Asked anonymously whether or not these games would cut into Nintendo DS sales, we heard a resounding no. The logic is that because the licensed games will be exclusive and cater to an older audience they should not intrude into Nintendo’s existing markets. The one thing Nintendo does worry about is their amount of control of Apple. While not developing a cell phone internally has its advantages, giving up control of platform has not historically… more...

Apple Forces iPhone Users to Set Up iTunes Account

imageIn an email sent out yesterday to propsective iPhone users, Apple announced all iPhone users will need to set up an iTunes account. We already knew the iPhone interface would be synced up via iTunes so it does not come as a great surprise that Apple would take the next logical step and require people to set up iTunes accounts.

According to this Bloomberg post:

Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs said the iPhone will be Apple’s third main business, alongside the Macintosh computer and iPod music and video player, which each ring up annual sales of about $10 billion. Apple expects to sell 10 million iPhones in 2008 to capture a 1 percent share of the mobile-phone market.

We all know it makes sense for Apple to get our credit card info, our secret questions and our email addresses, but where’s the value to the customer?
